Local businesses could benefit from millions of pounds worth of work resulting from the construction of Poole’s Twin Sails Bridge.
Borough of Poole and Hochtief (UK) is staging a special ‘Meet the Contractor’ event at Upton House in Poole on Thursday 2 September 2010 to give local companies an opportunity to learn how they can bid for work linked to the building of the town’s second harbour crossing.
Project contractor Hochtief (UK) is offering 15 business packages ranging from architectural lighting to road marking and landscaping.
Councillor Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Local Economy, Borough of Poole, said: "The Twin Sails Bridge will stimulate new investment and create job opportunities in Poole over the next 10 to 15 years. However, we believe its construction can bring benefits to the local economy today. Hochtief is already working with several local firms and we would like to see many more benefit from the construction of the Twin Sails Bridge. We cannot give local businesses a guarantee of work but we can at least make sure they are aware of the opportunities available and encourage them to submit tenders in the future."
The Twin Sails Bridge will provide critical infrastructure for 26 hectares of brownfield land and unlock one of the largest regeneration sites in the South West. The regeneration is expected to deliver 2,000 homes and create up to 5,000 jobs over the next 15 years.
Hochtief (UK), one of the leading international providers of construction-related services, was appointed by Borough of Poole in April 2010 to build the Twin Sails Bridge and the immediate approach roads in Poole and Hamworthy. The 20-month construction phase of the £37 million regeneration project will see Poole’s second harbour crossing open in early 2012.
The ‘Meet the Contractor’ event, supported by Business Link and Dorset Business, is free and will be held at Upton House on Thursday 2 September 2010 between 9.30am to 12.30pm. Places are limited and must be booked in advance. For more information or to book a place, please email business.info@poole.gov.uk.
